Manchester United have announced a very different line-up for tonight’s EFL Cup match against Aston Villa from the one they succumbed to the same opposition 3-1 on Sunday.
Anthony Martial is included as a starter for the first time since recovering from an injury that has kept him sidelined since September.
Elsewhere, Bruno Fernandes has been recalled after missing the Villa Park match through suspension.
Martin Dubravka finally manages to debut in goal.
Lisandro Martinez finally rests, with old school Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof in the center back and Diogo Dalot and Tyrell Malacia on the left and right.
McFred, Scott McTominay and Fred are also restored in central midfield.
In the continued absence of Antony and Jadon Sancho, Donny van de Beek and Marcus Rashford occupy the last forward positions.
The system has yet to be discovered, but it could be a 4-2-3-1 with Rashford and Fernandes left and right, van de Beek in 10th place and Martial in front, a 4-3-3 with Martial in CF and Bruno on the right wing, or Bruno could be playing as a phase 9 with Martial on the left and Rashford on the right.
The substitutes are David de Gea, Lisandro Martínez, Luke Shaw, Facundo Pellistri, Christian Eriksen, Casemiro, Anthony Elanga, Shola Shoretire and Alexander Garnacho.
Cristiano Ronaldo is not included in the squad at all.
This is the confirmed lineup:
