Marcos Llorente, one of the targets of English Premier League club Liverpool, has recently been signed by Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.
After spending time in the youth academies of Las Rozas, Nueva Rocena and Rayo Majadahonda, Marcos Llorente has joined the Real Madrid youth academy, Real Madrid.
He then rose through the ranks and was promoted to the senior Real Madrid team. Shortly after his promotion, he was loaned out to La Liga club Alavés. Llorente played one season at Alavés and then returned to Real Madrid.
He spent two more seasons at Real Madrid before joining arch-rivals Atlético de Madrid in 2019. In his second season with the Colchoneros, he won La Liga. Marcos Llorente has already represented Spain on the national stage. He was part of the Spanish team that reached the semifinals of Euro 2020.
Liverpool Interested in Llorente
Since joining Atlético de Madrid, Marcos Llorente has been one of the best players on the Spanish team. His versatility to play equally in midfield and as a right back makes him one of the most important players for Diego Simeone.
However, this season, Marcos Llorente has not yet given his best. And now the Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo has reported that Atletico will consider selling the Spaniard if a good offer arrives.
Liverpool, giant of the English Premier League, is one of the teams that has an interest in the midfielder. The Reds have had a very poor start to the season. They have managed to win just four of their first twelve matches in the English Premier League.
With sixteen points, Jurgen Klopp’s men currently occupy ninth place in the table. Although both defenders and attackers have not had their best performance, it is the midfield area that needs reinforcement as soon as possible. Liverpool’s midfield have been outplayed by their opponents, quite a few times this season.
The veterans have not produced consistent performances and most of Liverpool’s midfielders have suffered from injuries. His summer signing Arthur has only managed one appearance so far. Therefore, Liverpool are looking for a lot of midfielders who can join them in the January transfer window.
One of the most versatile profiles in Europe, Llorente’s is a very good ball winner, great distributor and skillful playmaker. The Spaniard also has the ability to carry the ball and unleash long shots. He can be a great addition to Liverpool’s midfield. On top of that, he can also give Trent Alexander Arnold a break and operate at right back.
With Atletico Madrid failing to balance their book, Llorente is currently available for a price of £35-40m. So if Liverpool want to sign him, the price will not be an issue for them.
The Reds will play Tottenham Hotspur in their next game.
