Chelsea star Jorginho’s agent Joao Santos has insisted his priority is to extend the Italian midfielder’s contract with the Stamford Bridge outfit.
Jorginho has been playing for Chelsea since they signed him from Serie A side Napoli in the summer of 2018. The 30-year-old signed a five-year contract with Chelsea back then.
Jorginho’s current contract with the Blues expires next summer. That means if he and Chelsea can’t agree on a new contract, he will become a free agent in 2023.
Barcelona have already been linked with a free transfer of Jorginho next summer. AC Milan are also rumored to be interested in the services of the Chelsea star.
Jorginho wants to extend his contract with Chelsea, agent reveals
The Chelsea midfielder’s agent has now denied rumors that he has met with Barcelona manager Mateu Alemany over a possible Jorginho move.
Santos insisted his priority is to extend Jorginho’s contract with Chelsea. He also highlighted that the only club he has spoken to in recent weeks about Jorginho’s future is Chelsea.
“It is not true that I have known [Barcelona director] Mateo Alemán,” Santos told Relevo [via Daily Mail]. “Our priority is to extend with Chelsea; That is the only club I have spoken with in recent weeks, Jorginho’s future is at Chelsea.”
Jorginho has also insisted that he is happy at Chelsea despite speculation about his future with the English club.
Meanwhile, Jorginho has started 17 games in all competitions for Chelsea this season. He did 11 of those in the Premier League and the other six in the Champions League.
He has not appeared in a single match for Chelsea so far this season. That happened in Chelsea’s 4-1 loss to Brighton. Jorginho was an unused substitute in that match.
Chelsea, meanwhile, secured a 2-1 victory over Dinamo Zagreb in their final game of the 22/23 Champions League group stage. Jorginho started for Chelsea in the match and was impressive for the Stamford Bridge side.
Chelsea qualified for the Champions League round of 16 as winners of Group E. They have 13 points from six group matches and are three points behind second-place AC Milan.
Chelsea, meanwhile, host Premier League leaders Arsenal at Stamford Bridge in the English top flight on Sunday.
